Cooling Margin
About this tool
Every watt of IT equipment ultimately becomes heat that must be removed from the data centre. The conversion factor is 3.412142 BTU/hr per watt, and 12,000 BTU/hr equals one ton of refrigeration. A cooling margin of at least 20% is widely recommended to handle peak loads, hot-aisle variations, and future expansion without running cooling systems at full capacity, which shortens equipment life. Current draw helps size PDUs, breakers and UPS feeds; always use a true power analyser for final electrical design.
