About this tool
Entropy is computed as length × log₂(pool size) where pool size grows with each character class used (lowercase 26, uppercase 26, digits 10, symbols 33, space 1). Simple penalties reduce the effective entropy for repeated characters, keyboard-walk sequences (qwerty, abc, 123) and known common passwords. Crack-time estimates assume the full search space and two attacker speeds: an online service rate-limited to 100 guesses per second, and a high-speed offline GPU rig at 100 billion guesses per second. Real-world times vary enormously: treat these as order-of-magnitude guidance, not guarantees.
